M&A in Virtualization Security : Trend Micro acquires Third Brigade

Third Brigade Deep Security software unifies security across cloud computing, virtual, and traditional datacenter environments. It helps prevent business disruptions, enable compliance with key regulations and standards, including PCI, and support operational cost reductions that are necessary in the current economic climate.
This acquisition builds on the immense product and people synergy between the two companies:
* Brings to Trend Micro a best-of-breed host intrusion defense system for protecting endpoints from zero-day malware that complements our content security solutions powered by Trend Micro™ Smart Protection Network™. The Smart Protection Network is Trend Micro’s cloud-client security infrastructure that blocks threats before they reach customers’ networks and endpoints.
* Adds to Trend Micro’s data protection and compliance offerings with a line of defense at the server that can prevent data breaches and business disruptions, and meet compliance requirements
* Complements Trend Micro’s ongoing efforts in datacenter and virtualization security with its product innovations for virtual and cloud environments
* Recognizes the synergy between the two companies’ sales, marketing and R&D teams that have been working hand-in-hand over the last 18 months on the Trend Micro™ Intrusion Defense Firewall plug in for OfficeScan™, the result of an OEM agreement with Third Brigade

A really interesting green computer technology I found is desktop virtualization. It’s where multiple people can use the same computer at the same time each with their own monitor, mouse and keyboard. This saves a lot of electricity and e-waste. A company called Userful recently set a virtualization world record by delivering over 350,000 virtual desktops to schools in Brazil. They have a free 2-user version for home use too.
