What is Cisco revealing on 16th March 2009?

We are curious but also do realize that this revelation might kick-start series of revelations. When HP bought EDS a lot changed and Cisco’s move towards server hardware, if that is what it is revealing, less important as :

  • - it still has to prove its unification move/strategy as it enters the server market
  • - it has to face the series of annoucements that will follow from IBM, HP et al
  • - it has to ship those boxes
  • - it has to sell those boxes

So it is definitely very exciting of what they might be telling next week and could be a big change into the traditional markets where criss-cross cannibalization is about to start, and that is more important than the news.

Cisco Systems Inc said it will unveil next week a new strategy to help customers build more efficient data centers, amid expectations for the network equipment maker to announce it will start selling servers.

Media reports have said that Cisco plans to sell computer servers equipped with virtualization software by VMWare Inc, a move that could position Cisco into more competition with Hewlett-Packard Co and IBM.

The company would not disclose details of the March 16 announcements on Monday, but a spokeswoman acknowledged that the event would be related to the speculation. Chief Executive John Chambers and other Cisco executives will unveil new technology and partnerships, it said.
