EMC layoffs to hit Belgium; Centera development center to close down

While every reorg might be taken as some sort of “battening down the hatches” , this news could very well be something we could deal with. This made me smile, for many reasons actually:

My understanding, from a person familiar with the situation, is that Tucci laid out six principles guiding EMC’s activities, and these are:-

1. Maintain external focus, staying closer than ever to customers.

2. Gain share in top markets.

3. Retain, attract, and develop key talent.

4. Sharpen discipline on costs.

5. Sustain and extend product technology, assuring an enhanced competitive advantage.

6. Stay close and communicate frequently.

Here are links to Centera factory shutdown and EMC’s efforts to stay afloat. I think all companies working hard not to lsoe talent while losing extra baggage. I personally foresee extremely harsh climate for many tech firms and expect some big names to disappear as we approach 2009 christmas
